In more detail
Long-Term Care Planning
This is the conversation about what care will look like and how it gets paid for, before a hospital discharge planner forces the question. We map the realistic options for your family: care at home, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and what each one costs in Central Florida against the income you actually have.
Without it:Without a plan on paper, the decision gets made in about forty eight hours, by whoever happens to be available that day.
Asset Protection
Lawful strategies that keep a lifetime of savings from disappearing into care costs: how property is titled, the right trust at the right time, Florida's strong homestead protections, and written agreements that document what is really happening inside a family. Timing drives all of it, and the tools narrow as a health crisis gets closer.
Without it:Families who wait spend down savings that earlier planning could have lawfully preserved for the healthy spouse.
Medicaid Eligibility Planning
Long term care Medicaid in Florida has a monthly income cap, a strict asset limit, and a sixty month look back at anything given away or sold below value. Planning is the work of fitting a real family into those rules without impoverishing the spouse still at home, and without gifts that quietly create a penalty period.
Without it:Without it, families either spend down far more than the rules require, or they file, get denied, and lose months of coverage.
Veterans Benefits Coordination
A wartime veteran, or a surviving spouse, who needs help with daily activities may qualify for a monthly VA pension with Aid and Attendance. The rules are not Medicaid's rules: the VA runs its own look back on transfers, and a move that helps one program can damage the other. We coordinate them on purpose.
Without it:Benefits sit unclaimed for years, or a well meant transfer trips a program the family did not know it was in.
Capacity & Cognitive Decline Planning
There is a window after a diagnosis when a parent can still sign, and it is narrower than families expect. Inside it we put a durable power of attorney, a health care surrogate designation, and a preneed guardian designation in place, and we have the harder conversation about driving, money, and who is going to be in charge.
Without it:Once capacity is gone, the only remaining door is a court supervised guardianship, with an examining committee and annual reports.
Caregiver Agreements
When a daughter leaves a job to care for her mother, or a son moves in, paying that person is fair. Doing it with a written agreement at a fair market rate, with hours and duties documented, is what lets it survive later scrutiny from Medicaid and from the tax return.
Without it:Without the paperwork, the money looks like a gift, and gifts inside the look back create a penalty period.
